Grizzly Adams...Living the Dream

Day 68

Grizzly Adams. A guy who is wrongly accused of a crime, so he moves into the mountains where he; builds a log cabin, learns to live off the land, has clean mountain water to drink, catches fish with his bare hands and has a grizzly bear for a pet. Oh, and, he doesn't pay income tax. But the poor bastard is forced to live without a shopping mall close by. How much worse can it get?

As much as it sounds like a dream come true it wasn't (except the lack of a shopping mall). The early settlers were up before dawn and didn't sleep until after dark. And that was just to survive. The weather, wild animals and people trying to steal what they had built. We have it so much easier today yet we dream of the wonderful life away from our boring job and loud neighbors; high priced gas, groceries. And did I mention taxes?

Dan Haggerty wasn't a great actor. He got the role because he was the only actor who could stand next to a full grown bear without pissing in his pants. And that's man enough for me, or actor enough. I don't know what he did after the show was cancelled. Maybe he stayed in those mountains being his own man. He was 74 when he passed away. Not a bad age unless your 73.

Until tomorrow,

Ken
