Wolfsbane: Beautiful and Deadly

Day 190

"Even a man who is pure in heart
And says his prayers by night,
 May become a wolf
 When the wolfsbane blooms,
And the autumn moon is bright."

The Old Gypsy Woman

I sure am glad this isn't autumn 'cause I'm pretty sure I got some of this bloomin' right next to my house.

Wolfsbane, a.k.a. Monkshood due to the shape of the flower, is found in the northern hemisphere. It is a wildflower and though beautiful, the whole plant is poisonous even the sap.

It has been used to kill wolves by grinding up the root and adding it to meat left out for the wolves to eat. Thus the common name wolfsbane.

Until tomorrow,

Ken
